Yesterday I had a day off from racing which is very unusual at this time a year. Otherwise we are pretty much racing very day. It was nice to have the opportunity to relax and spend same time with the family.
We are looking back at a fantastic weekend as Reslove won the final of the Maple Leaf Trot at Mohawk, Canada. His performance was awesome and his instinct for winning is absolutely unbelievable. To beat Hannelore Hanover despite racing on the outside was impressive.
I really hope Reslove will get an invitation to the International Trot at Yonkers on October 15th.
During a few weeks in July and August the horses preformed very unevenly, but I think they are racing better now and are much more consistent. Many of our 2 year olds have raced good while some still need additional time to develop. So far this year the stable have 453 starts, 80 wins and earned over 2.8 million dollars.
I visited Hanover Shoe Farm last week and also got to see the world record holder Sebastian K.
It was great seeing him again and it looks like he’s enjoying life as a breeding stallion.
We are leaving for Lexington, KY in the beginning of next week. It will be a couple of weeks of racing at The Red Mile and 5 days of yearling sales. This year we will be bringing about 18 horse to race. Over 600 trotting and pacing yearlings are entered in the upcoming sale.
The sales starts on October 4.
I bought five yearling last Sunday at the sale in Goshen, NY. Some of them will have shares available for sale. If you are interested please contact us. You will find our contact information on this website.
The following horses were purchased:
On The Ropes (h. e. Chapter Seven-RS Giggles) 40 000 dollar.
Natalie Hanover (s. e. Chapter Seven-Nanticoke Hanover) 22 000 dollar.
Gerken Hanover (h. e. Russell Hanover-Guthrie Hanover) 7 500 dollar.
Python Blue Chip (s. e. Roll With Joe-Fancy Creek Funny) 34 000 dollar.
Candlemas Hanover (h. e. Art Major-Cinergy Hanover) 9 000 dollar.

Svanstedt about the success in the US – “Great fun “
Last week was a grand slam for Svanstedt Stables, winning four big races.
Resolve won his first start since returning to the United States after finishing second in the Elitlopp. Åke is now hoping for an invitation to the World Cup race in the fall.
– He raced really well and his next start will be in a couple weeks at Yonkers in an overnight race, says Svanstedt.
The stake season in the US is now in full swing and it will only get more hectic from here. The first few months of the season has been outstanding and the best so far for Svanstedt since moving to the United States three years ago.
– The horses are racing well and last week the stable made $ 400,000. It can be hard at this time a year with races nearly every day and often at multiple tracks on the same day, but it is fun. Then it gets very exciting when the two year olds start racing, says Svanstedt. Friday evening we have five 2-year-olds making their debut at the Meadowlands.
– We qualified eleven 2-year-olds last Saturday and will qualify another ten on Saturday, he said.
The direct flight overseas worked well”
So far this year the horses in Svanstedt’s Stable has made about $1.16 million. Resolve’s first start since the Elitlopp was last Friday at the Meadowlands when he won the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial. The victory came after racing wire to wire in 1.52.2 for a purse of $ 200,000
– Resolve was great and felt as good as he did before traveling overseas. He has not trained much either and has taken it easy since being back home. He jogged some and just trained a few fast miles.
– I’m glad he did so well after being in Sweden. This shows that a direct flight wasn’t as hard on the horses. Both Pinkman and Resolve raced well immediately after they come home again, says Svanstedt.
– Many are afraid that the horses will take a beating and not compete well after making such a trip to Europe, that it might destroy the rest of their racing season. But this time it didn’t do that. It will be a direct flight again next year, so maybe more people will be interested in going.
Where and when will Resolve’s next start be?
– He has no big races until Hambletonian Day on August 6th. Therefore I intend to race him in an overnight race at Yonkers two weeks from now. Yonkers has a race every Saturday with a purse of $ 40 000. So we might make one or two starts there. – I hope he gets invited to the World Cup race there later this fall. This will be a good way to see how he handles the racetrack and its tight turns.
Won three major races for three year olds
The weekend before Resolve won was a grand slam for Svanstedt in two major three year old races. Dante and Non Stick each won their final of the Empire Breeders Classic at Vernon Downs. Each winner taking home just over $ 100, 000.
– Both Dante and Non Stick raced great. Dante is a completely different horse this year compare to last year. He was hot-tempered and awkward and had problems trotting in the turns. This year he has raced well in all his starts. He also won the Dexter Cup back in May and his earnings so far this year is over $ 200,000, says Svanstedt.
– Non Stick has won all of her races but one, and that was two starts back. She was not quite a hundred percent and had a throat infection. She was healthy in the final and proved that she is a really nice horse.
Under vigorous development”
Another big victory for Svanstedt came last Sunday when he steered the Royal Harry to a win in the NY Sire Stakes at Buffalo Raceway. He got to the front in the first turn and won easily making over $ 30,000.
– The Royal Harry is nice horse too. He is a large horse and he has taken his time, but is developing very nicely, says Svanstedt.

We are now back in the United States again after a fantastic and enjoyable weekend in Stockholm. While in Sweden, we met many friends and colleagues. Resolve performed very well in both the elimination and the final of the Elitlopp. We ended up 3th over in the elimination. I thought he should have done a better job keeping up with the gate, but he is use to a longer and more consistent speed here in the US.
The way he raced the last 700 meters, 3 wide was impressive. I had a good feeling after finishing 2nd in the elimination and draw post position 3 for the final.
I wish everyone was able to experience the feeling of being in the post parade of the Elitlopp final. Scoring down in front of grandstand and the fans is an amazing feeling, it’s just magical! The final was pretty much a repeat of the elimination, Resolve put on a strong fight and finished 2nd going 3 wide in the last turn. Nuncio raced amazing too. To win the Elitlopp racing second over is a strong performance and very unique.
We would like to thank Bender who sponsored and organized a direct flight for the American horses. We wish the trainers in the US would have showed more interest. We have to figure out the reason for the lack of interest before next year and hopefully we will have a full load going to Solvalla in 2017. Yannick Gingras and Jimmy Takter had an amazing moment in the winner circle after Pinkman’s win in the 4 year old Elit. Something that can only be experienced on Solvallas Elitlopp weekend.
Once again, I would like to say Thank You to the Bender family, Solvalla and to all fans for an amazing weekend!
We’ll be back!!!
coming into the stretch.
He brooke a 23 year old track record for a 1 1/4 mile in 2:25.4. The staking season has now officially started and we are looking forward to see how our 3 year old’s are going to compete. Some of our 2 year olds will be ready to qualify in a few weeks. As aways, it will be exiting and interesting to see how they will behave.
In about two weeks me and the family moves up to Legend Farm, New Jersey. All 2 year olds and older horses also, while all 3 year olds will go up the last April.
We look forward to coming up to New Jersey and start racing again. Now it will be full speed by going on races anywhere from three to seven days a week between June and November.
I am pleased with my horses and it’s always exciting to start racing with the 2 year olds. They’re going to start qualifying in June/July.
Resolve will qualify at the Meadowlands on April 16. If all goes as planned, he will start April 23 at The Meadowlands. As I mentioned before, I hope he come in good shape, so we can go to the Elitlopp at Solvalla on Sunday (May 29) with him. Resolve has felt good all winter and it will be exciting to race with him again.
Many of 3 year olds look interesting and hopefully we have someone behind the starting gate in the Hambletonian 2016.
Canada’s O’Brien Awards were presented yesterday. Resolve was awarded
as the best older trotter of 2015 which is very fun and flattering.
Unfortunately we couldn’t be up there. Resolve made top performances
throughout the whole summer and fall. At Mohawk he won an elimination of Mapel
Leaf Trot and lost the final to Bee A Magician by a small marginal. He
was 2nd in the Breeders Crown at Woodbine and then he finished his season by
winning the elimination and final of the TVG Free For All series at the
At the moment Resolve is training and feels fine. I hope and believe that
he will make an equally good race season this year. They now offer a direct
airplane ride from the US to the Elitloppet in Sweden, which is a fantastic
contribution of this year’s sponsor, Bender. I have worked closely with the
Bender’s family for many years when I was trainer of Palema
Stable in Sweden. It’s a family that lives for the horses and the sport year round. We share many good memories,
especially the Elitloppet victories with Gidde Palema in 2004 and Torvald
Palema in 2009 (breeders). We’ll see in May if Resolve is in right shape
and can get on the plane to Sweden to attend this year’s Elitloppet.
Björn Noren has given me a notice that he will resign from his job at the
end of the month for family reasons. Björn has been a great help to me and
the stable. He has taught me the American system and has been my mentor in
many ways. I’m very grateful and pleased that we got to work 2 and 1/2
Bjorn Noren: I have decided that it’s time for me to move on. My wife
Laura and our children are not that satisfied with the lifestyle here in
Usa, so we have decided to relocate us closer to our families in Sweden and
Finland. We want to give our children safe environment to grow and
scandinavian lifestyle. At the moment I don’t have any particular job
waiting for me over there but I hope something interesting will come up. It
may be in Sweden or Finland, depending on which will suit best for our
family. My time with Ake Svanstedt has been very fun and I have learnt a lot. The
world record at Pocono Downs with Sebastian K is a memory I will never
forget. Ake is one of the best horse trainers in the world and will have
many great years ahead of him in the United States. I wish the whole team
best of luck!
2 years old Explosive.
Just finished a conversation with a good friend in Sweden, he told me that it was cold, 23 degrees celsius below zero.
I was asked about homesick? Answer: No!
I miss of course friends and family in Sweden but we really enjoy our life in United States and we have a pleasant climate all year round.
After 2 years of challenges and concerns with all that moving and starting a business in a new country means, I think it feels now much safer and stable to kick off year No. 3.
We have 33 nice two-year-old horses which so far looks good. If I may compare my two last years horses at this point with this year I think it’s look good.
Three year old horses had a short rest but winter training is now in full swing.
I am satisfied with the result for 2015 . But I want to raise them even more.
522 starts. 102 – 73 – 55. $ 3,503,475 and 8th place in the trainer league.
I have my goals for 2016 but they do I keep for myself.
This year’s Elitlopp at Solvalla may get a boost if it becomes reality with a direct flights from the United States to Sweden and back again.
I know that many trainers and drivers want go to Elitlopp at Solvalla Raceway to experience that fantastic weekend.
But what made them hesitant is that the journey is too demanding for the horses that they become tired and then not perform so good.
If the arrangement with a direct flight becomes reality, it will be a boost for the sport and the audience.
